The good news is that Newark cops found the stolen vehicle parked on Adams Street mere minutes after the carjacking incident. Most importantly, the young kid was inside the car and unhurt.

If authorities can eventually identify and capture the person responsible for the auto theft, he would probably be charged with first degree carjacking. A conviction for carjacking in New Jersey could lead to a sentence of 30 years in New Jersey State Prison.

The suspect is a 37-year-old man from Newark, New Jersey. According to Essex County authorities, the suspect used a gun to shoot and kill a 33-year-old man who was walking along a street in Irvington, NJ.

The victim, a resident of Irvington NJ, was walking on the 300 block of Myrtle Avenue just after 12:00 p.m. on May 12 when someone reportedly shot him in his leg. Emergency medical responders transported the victim to University Hospital in Newark, where he tragically died due to the shooting-related injuries.

Irvington NJ police and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office conducted a joint investigation into the shooting and eventually captured the suspect.

The suspect now faces criminal charges for first degree murder, felony murder, and conspiracy. He also faces criminal weapons charges for allegedly using a firearm to commit the homicide.

If the suspect is ultimately convicted on the first degree murder charges, he could be sentenced to life imprisonment in NJ State Prison.
