Newark New Jersey law enforcement is investigating a fatal shooting. Authorities have yet to identify a suspect in the homicide.
The violent incident occurred just after 8:30 p.m. on the 400 block of 18th Avenue in Newark, NJ. Two pedestrians suffered serious gunshot wounds in the shooting and were rushed to nearby University Hospital.
Doctors at the Newark hospital treated both victims, but one of the men did not survive his injuries. The victim who died was a 33-year-old resident of Newark, New Jersey.
The other victim in the shooting is a 31-year-old resident of Newark, NJ.
Newark detectives are currently investigating the homicide and trying to identify a suspect.
If and when police identify and capture a suspect, that person could face numerous criminal charges such as first degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, and weapons offenses. A conviction on the murder charges could result in a sentence of life imprisonment in New Jersey State Prison.
