The Newark Police Department sent officers to a home located on the 400 block of Avon Avenue in Newark, New Jersey. When Newark police officers got to the scene, they entered the residence and discovered the victim’s body.

Emergency medical responders pronounced the victim dead at the scene, meaning that there was no need to transport him via ambulance to a hospital.

The Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are conducting a joint investigation into the homicide. The Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office will be performing an autopsy on the victim’s body. The Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office provides services to Essex County, Hudson County, Passaic County, and Somerset County.

Newark authorities have not released a lot of details about the homicide – beyond indicating that investigators believe the victim was killed and that the killing has been classified as a homicide.

If law enforcement eventually makes an arrest in the case, it the culprit could face very serious criminal charges for first degree murder. Moreover, the culprit could also face criminal weapons charges, depending on the circumstances of the case.
