Police officers recently arrested a woman who works as a TSA screener at Newark Liberty International Airport after she was allegedly found to be in possession of marijuana.
The suspect, a 33-year-old Newark NJ woman, is employed by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) as a screener.
According to authorities, the suspect was stopped for having unclear plates while driving a BMW to the Newark airport. The suspect’s boyfriend, a 30-year-old Newark man, was reportedly in the car with her at the time.
Police reportedly searched the suspect during the traffic stop and found her in possession of 134 grams of pot.
The female suspect was arrested and charged with multiple drug offenses, including possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana near school property, possession of marijuana near public housing, and conspiracy. The suspect was also cited for multiple traffic offenses, including driving with a suspended license and possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) in a motor vehicle.
Meanwhile, the male suspect was criminally charged with a number of drug crimes.
Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose announced the arrests and the criminal charges and noted that the female suspect had already been suspended from her job. Moreover, TSA made a statement indicating that the female suspect would likely be fired from her job at the Newark airport.
