Newark New Jersey police are trying to find a man who reportedly used a weapon to violently attack someone.

The Newark Police Department got an emergency 911 call a short time after 4:30 p.m. to report that a man was suffering from significant physical injuries after being assaulted on a street in Newark, NJ. Newark cops went to the scene, but the suspect was already gone by the time they arrived in the area. Newark NJ police canvassed the neighborhood; however, they did not locate the suspect.

The victim is a 58-year-old Newark NJ man. He was taken to University Hospital in Newark, New Jersey, where doctors provided him with urgent medical treatment for his injuries. The victim was later released from the hospital.

Newark detectives are actively investigating the attack and attempting to locate the suspect, who has been identified as a 36-year-old local man.

If police can locate and arrest the suspect, he would likely be subject to criminal charges for aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
