Newark police recently arrested two individuals accused of violently assaulting a couple of Newark cops during a massive street brawl.
A 21-year-old West NY man and a Union City NJ man allegedly got into a physical dispute around 3:00 a.m. on a street in Newark, New Jersey.
According to law enforcement, dozens of people were watching the two suspects brawl. When two Newark NJ cops attempted to break up the fight, the West New York suspect allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed an officer in the arm. The injured cop suffered “severe” injuries and required hospitalization at a local hospital.
Another police officer also suffered significant physical injuries when he tried to stop the brawl. That police officer, a female detective with the Newark Police Department, reportedly got punched and kicked by both suspects.
Authorities placed both suspects under arrest at the scene of the alleged assault. They have both been charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. Additionally, the West NY suspect faces criminal charges for possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose because he allegedly used a knife during the attack.
