Newark New Jersey Assault AttorneysNewark NJ police are searching for a man who shot a local woman early Sunday morning.

The shooting incident happened around 3:30 a.m. That’s when the Newark Police Department got several reports of gunshots being fired on Schofield Street in Newark, NJ. Newark cops were dispatched to the area, where they came across the female victim suffering from a gunshot wound and lying on a nearby street.

The woman was transported to University Hospital in Newark NJ, where doctors treated her for her very serious injuries. After undergoing emergency surgery, the 30-year-old victim was listed in critical condition.

Detectives with the Newark Police Department are working around the clock to investigate the non-fatal shooting and determine the identity of the shooter. At this time, investigators have not yet been able to figure out a possible motive for the shooting incident.

If police can eventually identify and locate the shooter, he would probably be subject to criminal charges for aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Beyond that, the aggravated assault charges could potentially be upgraded to charges for first degree murder if the victim’s condition gets worse and she dies due to her injuries.
