Police officers recently arrested two Essex County men accused of getting into a violent fight at Rutgers University. The incident occurred on the Rutgers Livingston campus in Piscataway and reportedly ended with one of the men firing a handgun at the other man.
Police received a report of a gunshot being fired a short time before 5:00 p.m. in a parking lot on the Rutgers campus. When law enforcement officers arrived at the scene, they spoke with witnesses who said that the two suspects argued while brandishing deadly weapons. One of the men allegedly had a handgun, while the other man was reportedly carrying a machete during the altercation.
The fight allegedly ended with one of the suspects using the gun to shoot at a car in the parking lot.
The suspect accused of firing the gunshot is a 22-year-old Bloomfield man. He has been charged with numerous crimes, including unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and simple assault.
The other suspect is a 22-year-old man from Newark, New Jersey. He has been charged with simple assault.
Thankfully, nobody suffered any injuries due to the violent incident.
