Newark NJ Aggravated Assault AttorneysNewark New Jersey police are searching for a suspect who recently committed two shootings on a city street.

According to authorities, the shootings went down on the 100 block of West Kinney Street in Newark, NJ.

The Newark Police Department got a report of gunshots being fired and dispatched officers to the area. When Newark police officers arrived at the scene of the shooting, they found the two victims lying on the pavement.

Emergency medical responders treated the victims before taking them to University Hospital, located in Newark, where doctors provided additional medical treatment. Hospital officials later said that the victims were in stable condition and that their gunshot-related injuries were not life-threatening.

The victims are both 23 years old and residents of Newark, NJ.

Detectives with the Newark Police Department are currently investigating the violent incident. At this time, authorities have not yet determined the identity of the shooter or whether there was a motive for the shootings.

If police are able to identify and locate the shooter, the culprit would probably face criminal charges for aggravated assault and illegal handgun possession. The suspect could also face criminal charges for attempted murder, depending on the circumstances surrounding the shootings.

A conviction on aggravated assault charges could mean severe criminal penalties for the suspect. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1(b), a person who uses a deadly weapon such as a handgun or knife to commit an assault can be charged with a third degree felony. A conviction for third degree aggravated assault could potentially result in a sentence of 3-5 years in NJ State Prison.
