Newark NJ police are looking into a shooting that left four individuals with unspecified injuries.
The shooting occurred around 9:00 p.m. The Newark Police Department got a call about gunshots being fired near the 30 block of Irvine Turner Boulevard in Newark, New Jersey.
When Newark NJ police officers showed up at the scene, they investigated and quickly located ballistic evidence of gunshots having been fired.
Newark police did not find any of the injured victims at the scene of the shooting. However, police officers later learned that the victims were transported via private cars to nearby University Hospital, where they received medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
Law enforcement is actively investigating the shooting incident. Police have not yet identified the culprit or confirmed a motive for the shooting.
If police do eventually figure out the identity of the shooter, they could face serious criminal charges for aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4, anyone in possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose can be charged with a second degree crime and sentenced to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison.
