Maplewood NJ Sexual Assault SuspectA high school teacher in Maplewood New Jersey is accused of sexually assaulting a number of male students.

According to Essex County NJ prosecutors, the 35-year-old suspect sexually assaulted six students at Columbia High School in Maplewood, NJ. The suspect is a single mother of two young sons who works as a language arts teacher at the Maplewood high school.

The suspect allegedly engaged in sexual activity with the underage students, ages 14 and 15, on school property and in her car. The sex crimes allegedly occurred several times during 2013 and 2014.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office reportedly obtained video evidence of the suspect performing oral sex on one of the young victims. Another victim was reportedly present when the video was filmed.

The suspect was charged and then indicted in February 2015 on 40 counts of aggravated sexual assault and 40 counts of child endangerment.

The suspect recently filed a motion to dismiss the charges of endangering the welfare of a child.

The suspect also filed a motion sever the charges, meaning that she would face separate trials for each alleged victim.

Essex County prosecutors reportedly offered the suspect a plea deal. Under the terms of the plea, the suspect would receive a sentence of 15 years in New Jersey State Prison. Moreover, she would be required to serve nearly 13 years in prison before gaining parole eligibility.

Additionally, the plea agreement would require the suspect to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law.
