Newark New Jersey Homicide AttorneysNewark NJ police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating the family of a possible homicide victim.

In late November, the Newark Police Department got a report about a missing person who lived at an apartment located on Hawthorne Avenue in Newark, New Jersey. A neighbor of the victim contacted police after not seeing the victim for a number of days.

When Newark police officers got to the apartment complex, they found the missing person, a 53-year-old man, lying motionless on a bed inside his apartment. The victim was rushed to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Although police did not see any signs to suggest foul play at the victim’s apartment, Newark detectives are continuing to investigate the case. If it is eventually determined that the victim’s death was a homicide, it is likely that criminal charges for murder follow. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, murder is the most serious crime in the New Jersey Criminal Code. A conviction for murder could result in life imprisonment in NJ State Prison, with a minimum mandatory term of imprisonment of 30 years.

The Newark Police Department is asking that members of the public with information about the victim or the whereabouts of any of his family members contact Newark detectives at 973-733-4418.
