A Newark New Jersey man was murdered in a violent shooting on a city street.

The shooting occurred during the early morning hours on the 100 block of North 5th Street in Newark, NJ. The Newark Police Department received a report about gunshots fired and sent police officers to the area to investigate.

When Newark NJ cops got to the scene, they saw the victim seated in a car stopped in the middle of the roadway. The victim was reportedly “unresponsive,” so emergency medical responders transported him to University Hospital in Newark for urgent medical care. The shooting victim, a 29-year-old Newark NJ resident, was later pronounced dead at the medical facility.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Newark Police Department are conducting a joint investigation into the homicide and attempted to determine the identity of the shooter.

If police can eventually identify the person responsible for the shooting, that individual would probably be charged with first degree murder and weapons offenses.
