A Watchung man is on his way to prison after he was sentenced for the brutal murder of his ex-girlfriend at a residence in East Orange, NJ.
The suspect is a 45-year-old man from Watchung, New Jersey. He was allegedly angry that the victim was trying to break up with him, so he went to the victim’s residence in East Orange and used a firearm to kill her.
The victim tried to run from the suspect, but he reportedly chased her outside the home and shot her three times in front of an approached East Orange police officer. The officer then shot the suspect.
When the killing occurred, the young daughter of both the victim and the suspect was present.
An Essex County jury eventually convicted the suspect first degree murder and a certain persons offense for being a convicted felon unlawfully in possession of a weapon.
Now an Essex County Superior Court judge has sentenced the suspect to life in New Jersey State Prison. At the sentencing hearing, the victim’s sisters said that she was trying to restart her life after fleeing the abusive suspect. Although it is not clear if the victim had obtained a restraining order against the suspect, there is a record of the suspect being arrested for domestic violence assaults.
