Newark New Jersey police are looking into a recent shooting that left one person dead and another person seriously injured.

The fatal shooting occurred at 10:45 p.m. at an apartment complex on Ridgewood Avenue in Newark, NJ. The Newark Police Department received a call about gunshots being fired and dispatched cops to the scene. When police officers got to the apartment building, they saw the two victims in a third-floor hallway.

The female victim is 41 years old and lives in Newark. She sustained a gunshot wound that required medical treatment at the scene and hospitalization at a local medical facility.

The male victim also lived in Newark NJ and was 26 years old when he died. Paramedics were unable to revive him at the scene.

Detectives with both the Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are currently investigating the homicide.

If investigators can eventually determine the person responsible for the shooting, it is likely that prosecutors would file very serious criminal for first degree murder, aggravated assault, and weapons offenses.
