Newark Hit and Run Accident SuspectNewark New Jersey police officers arrested a local man who was allegedly caught driving a stolen car and then leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in injuries to two motorists.

The suspect is accused of stealing a 2002 Jeep Laredo in December. Newark patrol officers reportedly observed suspect driving the Jeep near the intersection of North 13th Avenue and 7th Avenue in Newark and failing to come to a complete stop. The cops tried to pull over the suspect’s vehicle, but he allegedly hit the gas and led police on a brief pursuit.

The police chase ended when the suspect reportedly crashed into two cars stopped near Orange Street and Roseville Avenue. The suspect then allegedly exited the Jeep and tried to flee on foot, but police quickly apprehended him.

Two people in the stopped cars sustained minor injuries in the car crash and required medical treatment at University Hospital.

Meanwhile, a vehicle check reportedly indicated that the suspect’s Jeep had been reported stolen out of Belleville, New Jersey.

The suspect, a 32-year-old Newark man, faces criminal charges for receiving stolen property, aggravated assault, eluding police, and resisting arrest.

According to law enforcement, the suspect is also being investigated for his possible involvement in several other crimes committed in Newark and surrounding areas of Essex County.
