Police are looking for a suspect in the possible murder of a man on a street in Newark, New Jersey.
According to authorities, the fatal shooting happened a short time after 7:00 p.m. The Newark Police Department got an emergency call about gunshots being fired on the 200 block of South 11th Street in Newark, New Jersey. When police officers arrived in the area, they found the 20-year-old victim unresponsive and lying on the sidewalk.
Emergency medical responders tried to treat the victim at the scene and then rushed him to nearby University Hospital. Roughly one hour after police found the victim, he was pronounced dead.
The Newark Police Department is currently investigating the fatal shooting incident. Investigators have yet to identify a suspect or determine a motive for the shooting.
If police are eventually able to figure out who killed the victim, criminal charges for murder would likely follow. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, murder is considered a first degree felony that carries a maximum punishment of life imprisonment in NJ State Prison.
