Newark NJ Homicide InvestigationNewark New Jersey police are looking into a fatal shooting outside a local home.

The homicide happened during the early morning hours. According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, the 47-year-old victim was murdered outside his residence on Leslie Street in Newark, NJ.

The Newark Police Department got a call about gunshots fired in the neighborhood. When police officers showed up at the scene, they came across the victim’s body.

The victim had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Newark police investigated the fatal shooting and collected evidence. Newark detectives also spoke with several neighbors of the victim.

According to witnesses, the victim was sitting in a tan sedan parked in the driveway of his home when someone walked toward the car.

The suspect is accused of firing several gunshots through the vehicle’s window. One person who lives on the same street as the victim said that they heard at least five gunshots ring through the air.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force is currently investigating the murder. Investigators have yet to identify a suspect or a motive for the shooting.

If police can eventually identify and capture a suspect, it is likely that criminal charges for murder would follow. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, murder is a first degree felony and carries a potential sentence of life imprisonment, with a minimum mandatory term of incarceration of 30 years in NJ State Prison.
