Newark New Jersey Homicide LawyersNewark New Jersey police are investigating a recent shooting death on a city street.

According to authorities, a 36-year-old Jersey City man was fatally shot while he walked on Roseville Avenue in Newark, NJ.

The Newark Police Department got a call about the shooting not long before 10:00 p.m. When police officers showed up at the scene, they came across the victim lying on the pavement.

The victim was transported to nearby University Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead approximately one hour after the shooting.

Law enforcement has stated that this killing is the 101st homicide in Newark this year. There were just 93 homicides in Newark NJ in 2014.

Two other homicides were also recently reported in Newark. One homicide involved the fatal shooting of a 57-year-old man near the intersection of Rodwell Avenue and Speedway Avenue. The other homicide involved a 42-year-old man who died as a result of “blunt force trauma” injuries at a home located on South 11th Street in Newark, New Jersey.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is currently investigating all of the recent homicides. At this time, investigators have not yet identified any suspects in the murder cases.

If a suspect in the most recent homicide is identified and located, they would likely be subject to severe criminal charges for first degree murder. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, murder is the most serious crime in the New Jersey Criminal Code and carries a potential punishment of life imprisonment in NJ State Prison.
