Union Township NJ police recently arrested a man who allegedly robbed three banks in Union NJ and two other banks in Essex County, New Jersey.
According to law enforcement, the 59-year-old suspect committed three robberies at two banks located in Union Township, including the Connect One Bank and the Santander Bank on Chestnut Street.
Union Township police and the FBI worked together to investigate the thefts and identified the suspect as the robber.
Union police detectives searched for the suspect and eventually got a tip that he was staying at the Airport Hotel Inn, a motel located on Spring Street in Elizabeth, NJ. Police officers went to the motel and reportedly found the suspect hiding inside a bathroom in one of the rooms.
Police placed the suspect under arrest without further incident.
Union Township police also apprehended another man in the suspect’s motel room. According to authorities, the other man resides in East Orange, New Jersey.
The main suspect was charged with three counts of bank robbery in Union. He may face additional charges for the bank robberies in Essex County, NJ.
The other man was charged with obstruction of justice. Authorities do not believe that he had anything to do with the bank robberies.
After being placed under arrest and charged, the robbery suspect was transported to the Union County Jail.
