New York police recently captured a man who allegedly committed a murder in Newark, NJ.
According to Essex County police, the 37-year-old suspect murdered the 64-year-old victim at a home located on the 300 block of Elm Street. The residence is in Newark’s Ironbound area.
The Newark Police Department got a call about gunshots fired at the home. When police showed up at the scene, they saw the victim’s body.
When authorities discovered the victim, it appeared that he had suffered severe body trauma. Law enforcement later determined that the suspect could have used some kind of object to fatally strike the victim.
Essex County Homicide Task Force detectives and NYPD officers conducted a joint investigation and eventually captured the suspect. The suspect was located and placed under arrest in Bronx, NY.
The suspect has been charged with a number of serious crimes, including first degree murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
After being arrested and processed, the suspect was moved to a jail in New York. Authorities were holding him at the jail in lieu of $1 million bail. The suspect will eventually be transferred to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, NJ.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force is still investigating the homicide. Investigators have not yet determined a motive for the killing.
