Newark New Jersey Homicide LawyersPolice are investigating the fatal shooting of a man who was standing outside an apartment building in Newark, New Jersey.

Newark NJ police got a call about gunshots fired on Spruce Street in Newark, New Jersey sometime around 2:30 p.m. Police officers were dispatched to the scene and came across the 48-year-old victim, who had sustained a serious gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to nearby University Hospital, where doctors attempted to save his life. Tragically, the victim was pronounced dead by doctors not long after he arrived at the medical facility.

Two other individuals suffered gunshot wounds as a result of the shooting. Two men, ages 21 and 31, were also rushed to University Hospital so that they could get medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

The three victims were reportedly standing on the street outside an apartment complex when someone fired the gunshots.

According to Essex County prosecutors, police are actively investigating the shooting. Investigators have yet to identify a suspect or determine a motive for the shooting.

If investigators eventually identify and locate a suspect, criminal charges for murder are likely to follow. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, murder is classified as a first degree felony and carries a potential sentence of life imprisonment.
