If police do eventually identify and capture a suspect, it is likely that the suspect would be subject to significant criminal charges for murder. Murder is the most serious offense in the NJ Criminal Code. That’s because N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3 classifies murder as a first degree crime. Moreover, while first degree felonies are usually punishable by up to 20 years in NJ State Prison, criminal homicide can result in life imprisonment.
Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect in the murder. Anyone with information about the shooting should call Essex County task force detectives at 877-847-7432 or 973-621-4586.
