Newark NJ police identified the victim of a fatal stabbing that reportedly stemmed from an argument over an Xbox.
According to law enforcement, the victim was a 26-year-old male from Newark, New Jersey. The victim reportedly got into an altercation with his girlfriend at their residence, which is located in the 100 block of Stuyvesant Avenue in Newark.
At some point, the argument allegedly became physical and the 28-year-old female suspect reportedly stabbed the victim.
The victim was rushed to University Hospital, but he was pronounced dead. According to a statement issued by Essex County prosecutors, the victim died as a result of a knife wound.
The suspect was arrested a short time later. She has been charged with aggravated manslaughter.
After being placed under arrest and processed, the suspect was taken to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, NJ. She was being held at the jail in lieu of $500,000 bail.
According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, the killing is the 36th homicide so far this year in Newark.
The city’s 35th homicide occurred just a few days earlier when a local man was shot while sitting in a parked car in the 700 block of South 20th Street. Although the Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the shooting, they have yet to identify any suspects.
