Four individuals have been indicted on murder charges in connection with the fatal shooting death of a woman in Newark, NJ.
According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, the homicide happened during an armed robbery outside a Newark residence located on 3rd Street in November 2014. The victim was a 22-year-old Newark woman who lived in Newark.
The victim was headed toward a friend’s house when the suspects reported walked up to her. The suspects are accused of snatching the victim’s cell phone and then shooting her multiple times.
After the theft and shooting, the suspects reportedly got into a white Maxima and drove away.
The victim was taken to nearby University Hospital, where doctors tried treated her for her injuries and attempted to save her life. Tragically, doctors could not save the victim; she died as a result of her injuries the following day.
Newark NJ police investigated the shooting and later found the cell phone somewhere near the location of the shooting.
Investigators eventually identified the suspects. Over the next few months, police located and arrested all four suspects. Three of the suspects were captured in New Jersey, while the fourth suspect was tracked down at an apartment in Savannah, Georgia.
The suspects include a 21-year-old Newark NJ man, a 28-year-old Newark man, a 22-year-old Irvington NJ man, and a 25-year-old Irvington woman.
The four suspects have been charged with several crimes, including murder, armed robbery, and multiple weapons offenses.
The suspects were recently indicted on all of the charges. They are now slated to appear in Essex County Superior Court for an arraignment.
All four suspects were taken to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, NJ. Two of the suspects are being held at the jail on separate $750,000 bail amounts; one suspect is being held at the jail in lieu of $300,000 bail; and the fourth suspects is being held at the facility on a massive $1 million bail amount.
