Newark New Jersey Murder AttorneysA Newark New Jersey man sustained significant injuries after allegedly being struck by a drunk driver in Matawan, NJ.

According to authorities, the victim was attempting to cross Route 79 in Matawan when he was hit by a 2015 Toyota Corolla. The accident reportedly happened around 8:00 p.m.

A 47-year-old Matawan man was allegedly driving the car at the time of the DWI accident. He was arrested after Matawan police officers determined that he was probably intoxicated.

Meanwhile, the 19-year-old victim was transported via helicopter to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey, where he received urgent medical care for his injuries. He is currently listed in critical condition.

The suspect in the case was subsequently charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI). The suspect could face additional charges for assault by auto, depending on determinations made by investigators. At this time, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Matawan Police Department are collaborating on the investigation.

After being placed under arrest and charged with drunk driving, the suspect was released on his own recognizance. He has a pending court date in Monmouth County Superior Court.
